went to the new museum last week. i enjoyed pieces from the david goldblatt and emory douglas shows, however i felt there was too much and that i wasn't totally enthralled. goldblatt's photos were beautiful yet the amount of them (two whole floors) seemed to be a lot more that was needed. the stillness and simplicity of the images left me feeling like i couldn't connect with them and left me a little bored by the end.
the emory douglas pieces were nice artifacts from the time of the black panthers but were difficult to get totally into. the video that was showed really was needed to support the work.
dorothy iannone's lioness was a fun exhibit, making the documentations less jarring that it could have come off.
i was a little disappointed in the current works at the museum after having really enjoyed previous shows especially unmonumental and after nature.
